You'd Be Surprised To Know That A Cat Breed Exists and Are Super Famous Because Of Their Curly Hair
A week ago, the Web got granted by a photograph of an orange little cat with curly hair. The image was followed by the accompanying inscription: “I’ve never seen a cat with curls until now.” Well, neither have most of us, but this is no trick – the curly hair on the kitty is the real deal, and here’s why.
The breed of the feline who has won the heart of hundreds of people in just a week is probably the Selkirk Rex – and its origins can be traced to one peculiar rescue cat named Miss DePesto.
Miss DePesto was conceived in a Montana animal shelter in 1987. She had four kin, every one of which have straight coats, yet Miss Depestp emerged because of her adorable curly wavy hair. She was received by Jeri Newman, a local Persian breeder.
She paired up the feline with a black Persian and they gave birth to a litter of six babies, every one of them with curly hair. Newman realized the curly hair was a dominant genetic trait – and this is the means by which the Selkirk Rex was conceived.
